Hazard Categories Explained
NVES uses a three-tier hazard classification system aligned with BC environmental standards. Understanding these categories helps you prioritize actions.
Clean (Gray Marker)
Sites with no detected contamination. These projects have either:
- Not yet been tested
- Passed all lab tests within acceptable limits
- Been successfully remediated and cleared
Contaminated (Orange Marker)
Sites where lab results have identified contaminants exceeding baseline levels but below hazardous thresholds. These sites require:
- Ongoing monitoring
- Potential remediation planning
- Regular reporting to environmental authorities
Hazardous (Red Marker)
Sites with contamination levels exceeding hazardous thresholds. These require:
- Immediate reporting to regulatory bodies
- Active remediation plans
- Restricted site access protocols
- Frequent monitoring and lab testing
Automatic Updates
When lab test results are entered with is_compliant = 0, the system automatically updates the project's contamination status. This ensures your hazard map always reflects the latest data.
